Calls For Watershed On 'Junk Food' Adverts

Campaigners are calling for a partial ban on "junk food" advertising to be extended beyond just children's channels to a 9pm waterfall for all stations. The renewed calls come after research from Liverpool University showed children could view as many as eleven adverts for fast food or unhealthy snacks during hour-long popular shows, such as X-Factor, The Simpsons and Hollyoaks.

The adverts would not currently be allowed to be shown on children's channels but can be aired on general stations, such as ITV and Channel 4 which were studies in the Liverpool research.

A government spokesperson responded to calls for a watershed to be imposed on 'junk' food adverts by recognising the concern of campaigners and pointing out that the rules are always under review.
