Prime Time Shows Dips For Holiday

Some of broadcast TV’s now perennial summer reality shows got off to some ho-hum starts on Memorial Day. NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” started off its 2014 summer period with a Nielsen preliminary 1.5 rating/4 rating among 18-49 viewers for its two-hour premiere that started at 9 p.m. This was down from the 1.7 rating it scored in its last previous season premiere.

Fox’s “MasterChef” at 8 p.m. came in with a 1.4/5 for its two-hour start. This was down about a third from its previous 2.1 rating season start. “MasterChef” had about the same results as the second week for “The Bachelorette” -- which earned a 1.4/4, also starting at 8 p.m. The ABC dating competition show was down from its 1.9 rating the week before.

CBS’ “Friends with Better Lives” finished its series run, earned a 1.4/4 for an original episode at 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m., Fox’s “24: Live Another Day” finished with a 1.5/4 -- down from its 1.7 rating the week before. The CW pulled in a 0.3/1 for its “Memorial Day” movie.

Reruns for the night included: CBS’ “2 Broke Girls” (1.0/4); CBS’ “Mike & Molly” (1.0/3); CBS’s “Mom” (0.9/3); and ABC’s “Castle” (0.9/3).

Among 18-49 viewers, Fox tallied a 1.5/5 for the night and 4.94 million overall viewers, while ABC and NBC each had a 1.3/4 -- 5.3 million overall viewers for ABC and 4.1 million for NBC. Univision was at a 1.1/3 and 2.69 million overall viewers, followed by CBS with a 1.0/3 and 5.0 million viewers and CW at a 0.3/1 and 1.33 million viewers
