Media shop MEC, part of WPP’s GroupM, has appointed Jon Hsia Managing Partner, Director of Digital Investment and Activation. Hsia replaces Joe Kowan, who is taking a new position within the digital investment team at GroupM.
In his new role, Hsia will be responsible for all digital investment across MEC’s portfolio of clients, working closely with the integrated MEC teams and client management.
Hsia reports to Shenan Reed who joined the agency in May as President of Digital for North America.
Prior to joining MEC, Hsia was Senior Partner, Managing Director of Digital Investment at sibling agency Mindshare, where he oversaw Unilever in North America.
Previously he was General Manager, Digital for Starcom Mediavest Group China, where he oversaw 100 employees across 4 offices stewarding investments for clients that included P&G, Mars/Wrigley and Richemont. He joined SMG in 2005 and worked on the Coca-Cola business in North America.
Hsia has held previous positions at Google, Carat (now part of the Dentsu Aegis Network) and Interpublic Group’s Mullen.
Commenting on the appointment Reed said that Hsia’s “experience working in two of the world’s largest markets, USA and China, along with a passion and deep understanding of the marketplace means that we’ll be able to find new and innovative ways to always get the best possible outcome for our clients.”
