Viacom's McCormack Replaces Harnevo As AOL Video/Studios Chief

Viacom executive Dermot McCormack will join AOL as its president of video and studios, replacing Ran Harnevo, who is leaving, but will remain as executive producer of the the AOL series “Connected.”

Harnevo had been in the post for eight years and, according to his prepared statement, said he welcomes the chance to return to his “entrepreneurial roots.”

McCormack, who will report to CEO Tim Armstrong, will be in charge of AOL On, the suite of 14 curated channels, and BE On, a branding and content platform. He’ll also oversee AOL Studios. McCormack will be based in New York and Beverly Hills.

AOL has launched about 50 online series since 2011.

McCormack joins AOL after almost six years at Viacom, where he most recently ran Viacom Music and Logo’s Connected Content Group. In this position, McCormack led all non-linear brand properties initiatives for MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo.
He is credited, per AOL, for emphasizing “strategic storytelling,” partnerships and social media tie-ins to propel growth. AOL says the Music Group tops comScore’s music category rankings.
