BIZ DEV: HCB Health Wins Alcon Surgical

Independent Austin-based firm HCB Health has been named global and U.S. agency of record for Alcon Surgical, a global developer and marketer of ophthalmic surgical brands. Covering all three business units of Alcon's surgical division (Cataract, Vitreoretinal and Refractive), the full-service assignment will include multiple product launches and comprehensive support for more than 20 brands, handling market planning and the execution of promotional strategies and mobile applications. A key initiative will be a global campaign promoting Alcon's cataract franchise in more than 50 countries. The agency bested FCB, Ogilvy CommonHealth, GSW Worldwide and H4B Chelsea in a competitive pitch. Steve Speares, vice president and global franchise head of Alcon, will lead the global account from the client side, with Sean Clark, head of U.S. surgical marketing, leading the U.S. business. Nancy Beesley, partner and chief marketing officer of HCB Health, and Amy Dowell, vice president, will manage the global and U.S. accounts from the agency side. "We selected HCB for this assignment because the agency has an unmatched understanding of our business, well-developed relationships with our target audiences, and the commitment to share our business responsibilities as trusted partners," said Speares. "They know medical devices and the surgical market better than any agency we've ever worked with." Alcon Surgical spent $5.7 million on measured media in 2013 and $1.6 million the first half of 2014, according to Kantar Media. "We're very excited to continue our work with Alcon Surgical and to help grow the company's business and relationships even further," said Beesley. "This is a company that is developing and marketing some of the most innovative and life-changing technologies available in the device industry today."
