DoubleClick Tech Guru Jumps To HookLogic

HookLogic has appointed a new chief technology officer. Fran Ryan ran DoubleClick's global engineering team as Google's top technologist in New York. Now he will oversee HookLogic's technology platform.

Ryan spent 15 years at DoubleClick. During the past three years, he supervised the rebuilding of most of the platform. Previously, he ran DART for Publishers and spent three years with the Abacus subsidiary managing retailer direct marketing efforts. He also led the technology integration for several Google acquisitions, such as AdMeld and Invite Media.

"I'm thrilled to have Fran join the HookLogic team," said HookLogic CEO Jonathan Opdyke. "Fran has been a key player in the development and evolution of the digital ad industry. His leadership and deep experience are a perfect match to take our platform to the next level."

For HookLogic, the next level could mean finding other places to serve ads such as publisher sites, which Opdyke would not confirm.

Today, HookLogic serves native-type ads on retail sites. The company started with search queries on retail sites, and moved to product pages, and on to home pages. Ryan also has experience in connecting supply and demand, Opdyke said.

Former Yahoo and Admeld exec Michael Barrett, who has a seat on HookLogic's board, had worked with Ryan during the AdMeld integration.

At HookLogic, Ryan will oversee the platform running behind an ad exchange supports many of the world’s largest ecommerce sites, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Expedia, and Priceline. Advertisers such as Intel, Hasbro, Marriott, Reckitt Benckiser and Microsoft use the platform to promote their products and drive sales. It's about in-market traffic, deep shopper data, and closed loop attribution.
