The Department of Business Oversight (DBO) announced an initiative to ensure major Internet search engines block advertising in California by unlicensed payday lenders. The DBO effort covers Microsoft
Bing, Yahoo and Google. The DBO consulted with Microsoft and Google when developing its initiative. As part of those discussions, the DBO provided both firms lists of unlicensed lenders hit with
enforcement actions. Using those lists, Microsoft and Google have now blocked ads from 39 unlicensed lenders.
