NBC News Stays On Top With Holt

For four weeks in a row, NBC has maintained its high status among TV news viewers when it comes to its “NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt.

For the most recent reporting week ending July 19, “NBC Nightly News” averaged a Nielsen 7.814 million total viewers, while ABC’s “World News Tonight” came in at 7.505 million and “CBS Evening News” had 6.488 million.

Among the key TV news viewers -- ages 25-54 -- NBC was also out in front at 1.876 million viewers, followed by ABC with 1.795 million viewers and CBS at 1.444 million. ABC News notes that season-to-date, “World News Tonight" is in its closest competitive position to “NBC Nightly News” in the 25-54 demo in eight years.

For the season-to-date so far, NBC is ranked first in total viewers 25-54 and 18-49. For NBC, it was the first time the network has won four consecutive weeks in both total viewers and the 25-54 news demographic since the period ending February 9, 2015.

Last month, NBC decided to move out Brian Williams -- longtime anchor at “NBC Night News” -- to cable network MSNBC. Giving Holt -- Williams' regular “Nightly News” replacement, the permanent top post on the show.
