For the most recent reporting week ending July 19, “NBC Nightly News” averaged a Nielsen 7.814 million total viewers, while ABC’s “World News Tonight” came in at 7.505 million and “CBS Evening News” had 6.488 million.
Among the key TV news viewers -- ages 25-54 -- NBC was also out in front at 1.876 million viewers, followed by ABC with 1.795 million viewers and CBS at 1.444 million. ABC News notes that season-to-date, “World News Tonight" is in its closest competitive position to “NBC Nightly News” in the 25-54 demo in eight years.
For the season-to-date so far, NBC is ranked first in total viewers 25-54 and 18-49. For NBC, it was the first time the network has won four consecutive weeks in both total viewers and the 25-54 news demographic since the period ending February 9, 2015.
Last month, NBC decided to move out Brian Williams -- longtime anchor at “NBC Night News” -- to cable network MSNBC. Giving Holt -- Williams' regular “Nightly News” replacement, the permanent top post on the show.
