Turner Broadcasting Restructures Ad Sales

Following in the footsteps of other media organizations, Turner Broadcasting is making a wide-ranging restructuring of its advertising unit.

Three key senior advertising sales executives will now represent all Turner cable networks to assigned media agencies or media agency holding companies.

Katrina Cukaj, Joe Hogan and Frank Sgrizzi will report to Donna Speciale, president of advertising sales for Turner Broadcasting. Its networks include TNT, TNT, TruTV, Cartoon Network and CNN.

The effort to streamline and eliminate many duplicate meetings between Turner and agencies. Turner’s Speciale stated: "We want to become a strategic resource to our business partners, leveraging our entire portfolio across all screens to create new opportunities.”

Additionally, Turner will start up a new business unit, Client Strategy and Ad Innovation, looking to find next-generation capabilities around audience targeting and return-on-media investment guarantees. Running the division will be Michael Strober, SVP within the entertainment sales division, who been promoted to EVP.

Also, Dan Riess will now be promoted to EVP of content partnerships, looking to enhance clients ideas around content and social/mobile monetization. He had been EVP of integrated marketing and branded content.

Two years ago, Turner started the streamlining process, combining its linear and digital sales divisions. About a month ago, NBCUniversal announced a similar TV advertising sales realignment.

A number of media agencies have also restructured their media buying groups in the wake of a changing marketplace.
