Luc-Belaire Giving Crowdfunders A Reason To Celebrate

During the holidays people don’t really need a reason to celebrate, but French sparkling wine brand Luc Belaire is looking to give a few budding entrepreneurs a reason anyway.

The brand, which has gained a following among rappers and some sports teams, has launched #BelaireBacked, an effort to help fund a number of Kickstarter campaigns. The campaign harkens back to the company’s self-made heritage, says Daniel Mazier, the brand’s public relations and marketing lead.

“We understand the challenge of being an entrepreneur and innovating,” Mazier tells Marketing Daily. “The aim is to help those innovators and creators reach their funding goals and get to the celebration phase faster.”

Through the effort, Luc Belaire will give up to $10,000 to nominated Kickstarter projects to put them over their funding goals. The company will also kick in a 15-liter bottle of its product to celebrate the achievement, just in time for the holidays.

“It’s super appropriate because this is the time of giving,” Mazier says. “It also doubles as an opportunity for us to promote New Year’s resolutions and new projects.”

The company is encouraging crowdfunders to tweet to them with the hashtag for consideration. In a video for the project, the company declares that “self-made tastes better.” On its Web site, the company highlights six projects it has already funded, ranging from Haize (a “minimalist urban bike navigation device”) to “Blackout” (a film that provides a “virtual glimpse into the lives of strangers”).

“We’re looking across a range of industries,” Mazier says. “And we’re looking [for] projects that are cool and innovative.”

Mazier wouldn't say how many projects in total the company will fund, or how much the company is projecting to spend on the effort, although he said “we are investing upwards of 90% of our overall marketing budget” to the program.
