Valentine's Day: Fruits, Flowers, And Bling On The Ring

Fruits, rather than flowers, are garnering higher searches and click-share rates this Valentine's Day. What about the bling on the ring?

Edible Arrangements took 13.41% click share, while FruitBouqets.com gained a 7.29% click share, during the first nine days of February.

Flower retailers ProFlowers.com gained 6.52% click share, while 1800Flowers.com at 6.12% click share and ftd.com at 5.10% rounded out the top five.

AdGooroo's numbers, based on U.S. Google desktop activity on 2,140 flowers and mail order gift keywords in 2016, shows consumers are more interested in edible gifts compared with sweet-smelling foliage.

On mobile, Google says searches for the phrase "chocolates near me" on mobile rose 4.1 times in 2015, and "florists near me" at 2.6 times, compared with the prior year.

The keyword "Flowers" topped the rankings for spend in the U.S. for paid-search campaigns running on Google for desktop, according to AdGooroo. Some 64 advertisers spent $779,000 gaining an average CTR of 2.80% at a cost per click (CPC) of $4.84. "Flower Delivery" was bought by 47 advertisers, spending $442,236 gaining an average CTR of 3.30% at a CPC of $5.94.

"Edible arrangements" and the variation "edible-arrangements" garnered 6.50% CTR and 5.90 CTR, respectively, at a cost of $0.68, and $0.74.

Some 32 advertisers paid $134,909 for the keyword phrase "chocolate-covered strawberries" at an average CTR of 5.40% at a CPC of $1.18 per click. The variation "chocolate covered strawberries" cost 32 advertisers $115,466 for an average CTR of 5.40% at a CPC of $1.82.

AdGooroo also analyzed activity on the same flowers and gifts keyword group for the full month of February 2015 and found that in February, 2015 Edible Arrangements was No. 1 in clicks as well, but at a lower click share -- 7.79% -- which was nearly even in performance with ProFlower.com at 7.79% click share, and ftd.com at 7.64%.

FruitBouquets.com also improved its performance during the first nine days in February 2016, having ranked No. 10 with a 1.78% click share in February 2015.

Fruits and flowers are fun, but don't rule out the bling. HookLogic analyzed data formajor jewelry product categories across ecommerce sites from during the first seven days in February and found rings generated the most traffic, followed by watches and earrings.

Rings also generated the most conversions, followed by earrings and necklaces. While people are looking at watches a lot, they aren’t buying them as much online. They may be doing research before buying in-store.
