Paul Lee Departs ABC Entertainment; Dungey Gets Top Spot

A major shakeup at ABC: Paul Lee is departing as president of ABC Entertainment Group after five-and-a-half years on the job.

Lee’s replacement is Channing Dungey, who will be president, ABC Entertainment. She had been EVP of drama development, movies & miniseries, ABC Entertainment Group. Dungey has been with ABC and ABC studios since 2004.

She has been key in the development of dramas including “Scandal,” “Criminal Minds,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Quantico,” “Army Wives” and “Once Upon A Time.”

Dungey will now report directly to Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC Television Group, who made the announcement.

In addition, Patrick Moran, EVP of ABC Studios, will continue to oversee day-to-day operations, reporting directly to Sherwood.

After a long tenure at ABC News -- Sherwood was president of the division since 2010 -- he took over his current post last year, January 2015, becoming the new direct report for Lee. After six years as head of ABC Entertainment, Lee stated: “Leading ABC has been a fantastic experience. I'm especially proud of the incredible team I built and the strategic, creative vision we established and successfully executed for both the network and studio. Together, we've transformed ABC into one of the strongest brands in television.”

Previously, Lee was president of ABC Family (now Freeform); he started with the cable network in 2004. Before that he worked at BBC America.
