'Sports Illustrated' Kicks Off 'Greatest Moments In Sports History'

Time Inc.'s Sports Illustratedlaunched a new short film series dedicated to the greatest moments in sports history.

The highly visual digital franchise, called "100 Greatest Moments in Sports History,”  “taps into the brand's deep history and rich content library,” the company stated.

Geico is a launch sponsor of the series.

The series is made up of 100 short-form films featuring the most important moments in sports history, curated by SI editors and ranked from 1-100.

The moments range from Jackie Robinson's MLB debut to Magic Johnson's NBA All-Star Game return.

"It is the debate among passionate sports fans that helps define the fan experience, and we expect that this new franchise will inspire much discussion and reflection," stated Paul Fichtenbaum, Sports Illustrated group editor.

The videos feature commentary from SI editors along with highlights, interviews, photos and stories from the SI Vault, the brand's newly relaunched digital content archive.

According to the company, the series will continue to evolve with future video-first installments of SI's “Greatest Moments in Sports History.”

Sports fans can either watching "just a few videos at at time, or all 100 moments sequentially, as they would a more traditional long-form special,” stated Ian Orefice, Time Inc. senior executive producer of original and current video programming.

In a post on the “100 Greatest Moments” series, SI editors wrote, in part, “We’re sure you won’t agree with this entire list from top to bottom, so we included an interactive ranker tool below. We love the community sports create, and the conversation these games spark.”

Today's launch comes on the heels of a redesign and back-end overhaul of the SI Vault, which now features a cleaner presentation, a streamlined navigation experience and improved functionality for tools like search and archival browsing.
