'Atlantic' Plans Convention Events, Political Coverage

The Atlanticis planning a series of events and programs at the Republican and Democratic national conventions in July at The Atlantic’s Convention HQ, with hubs in both Cleveland and Philadelphia.

The Atlantic’s Convention HQ will host daily newsmaker briefings, lunches, receptions and panels.

Each morning briefing will feature a panel of newsmakers discussing key topics of the 2016 elections.

For example, “The Election in Numbers” panel will have leading pollsters from each party take “a deeper look at the latest polling numbers and how this will inform the route each nominees should take moving past the conventions,” according to a statement.

“Battle for Congress” will look at how the presidential race will impact Congressional races.

“How Will They Govern?” will explore the vision, policies and decision-making from the presidential candidates.

The Atlantic’s Convention HQ will also host exclusive luncheons and evening “Cocktail Caucuses,” featuring one-on-one newsmaker interviews and networking receptions with programs moderated by Atlantic journalists.

According to the statement, each venue will also be the hub for The Atlantic’s newly expanded political reporting team.

The Atlantic’s conventions underwriters include the American Federation of Teachers, American Petroleum Institute, the MacArthur Foundation, Maker’s Mark, All In Together, She Should Run and Running Start.

In efforts to expand its political coverage, TheAtlantic.com launched a fully redesigned “Politics & Policy” section in January, as well as its “2016 Distilled” elections hub, which provides readers with an interactive resource for election news like a poll tracker, candidate “cheat sheets,” “media mentions” tracking TV coverage and campaign schedules.

A number of new political events in Washington D.C. have also been produced by AtlanticLIVE, the publisher’s events division.
