Grabbing The Bull By The Horn-Rims

In a brazen display of new business (and PR) initiative, Toronto-based 88 Creative is welcoming Warby Parker To Canada with a Pitch to be its agency.

The eyewear brand—known for its vintage-inspired styles and for donating pairs of glasses to people in need for each pair sold—is opening its first Canadian store in Toronto later this summer.

Sensing an opportunity the design team at 88 Creative came up with an illustrated poster that outfits some of Canada’s biggest celebrities in Warby Parker’s spring collection.

The agency sent a copy of the poster to the prospect, and also created a landing page to highlight the work and demonstrate  how much it wanted to work with the company.

In the poster, Justin Bieber is wearing the Wilkie-style glasses in a color shade WP calls Greystone, The Weeknd is sporting the Nesbit in Jet Silver, and Drake is donning the Lionel in Brushed Navy. Other featured celebs include astronaut Chris Hadfield, Blue Jays star Jose Bautista, and  Pamela Anderson of Baywatch fame.

The WP store is scheduled to open in late summer in Toronto’s Queen West neighborhood not far from the 88 Creative offices.

According to agency head Erin Bury no word yet on how impressed (or not) WP is with the reach-out effort. “Stay tuned to find out if we do end up working with their team, since everyone needs some local insight,” she said.

The agency focuses on digital and content marketing, design and PR. Clients include Nutram pet food, software company Flixel, and Exodus Travels.
