'Atlantic,' Allstate Team For Social Renewal Project

Atlantic Media Strategies and Allstate today announced the launch of a new social-first site and newsroom dedicated to civic innovation in America. Called The Renewal Project, the collaboration will spotlight individuals and organizations advancing social good across the nation.

In an editor’s note, The Renewal Project editor Margaret Myers said she has never given up on her hometown of Detroit.

“There are a lot of Detroits in America—communities that got knocked down, only to come back stronger. The Renewal Project is committed to telling their stories of civic innovation. We want to share ideas from the creative problem solvers on the ground who are making their communities thrive,” she wrote.

The Renewal Project is created and run by Atlantic Media Strategies (AMS), the creative agency and consulting arm of The Atlantic. The site will publish original articles and share ideas, poll data and community snapshots across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

It is part of a two-year editorial and marketing partnership between Allstate and The Atlantic. Other parts of the partnership include live events, awards ceremonies, polls and a series of articles on TheAtlantic.com.

“Since 2009, Allstate has supported our coverage—on the web, at events, and in polling—of the ways Americans are adjusting to rapid changes in the economy,” stated Bob Cohn, president of The Atlantic. “With The Renewal Project, we expand that partnership to a new platform designed to reach audiences primarily through social and mobile distribution.”

The Atlantic’s first event in this series, sponsored by Allstate, will kick off on June 14 in Charlotte, NC. Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts, community leaders and residents will discuss civic entrepreneurship and economic opportunity.

Events are in the works for Phoenix and Cleveland this fall.
