Dish Taps Roth As CMO

Dish Network has hired a senior JP Morgan Chase executive as its new chief marketing officer.

Jay Roth has been named SVP/CMO of the satellite TV operator, which has nearly 14 million subscribers. He will report to Warren Schlichting, EVP of marketing, programming and media sales for Dish.

Roth headed consumer marketing efforts for Chase’s consumer banking and home lending organizations for 10 years. Before Chase, he held senior marketing positions at Bank One for the company’s automotive, mortgage and home equity divisions.

Dish says Roth’s “360-degree consumer experience” and his “metric-driven marketing campaigns” will be a strong complement to the company.

Traditional pay TV companies have seen declines in subscribers in recent years. Dish lost some 81,000 in 2015, according to Leichtman Research Group.

In early 2015, Dish started up Internet-based, streaming Sling TV, which now has around 700,000 subscribers, according to analysts.

Dish Network stock traded near $70 a year ago. At mid-day Wednesday trading, it was at $50.55.
