Time To Play The Trump Card

I put off writing this column for a very long time, thinking that Americans would eventually come to their senses and reject Donald Trump for the nearly illiterate huckster that he is. But with the election closing in, I am stunned that Trump is within a few percentage points of Hillary Clinton in the polls.

Let me be perfectly clear: I am NO fan of Hillary's either, and if the Republicans had presented at least one intelligent, experienced, reasonably moderate candidate, I would be out there actively supporting him or her. But they didn’t. In one of the most monumental political miscalculations in history, they are stuck with The Donald.

I get that the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket, and that between a persistently weak economy, terror attacks, the seemingly warrantless killing of young black men and now the assassination of police officers, we are all scared -- perhaps more than at any time in recent memory. Combine all this with a government that seems incapable of moving society forward in any coordinated manner or handling foreign affairs with deftness, and who doesn't want radical change in Washington? Count me in.

But, to be blunt, Donald Trump is not fit to be the president of the most powerful nation on earth. The media has done a great job chronicling what a dishonest, immature and shallow man he really is. ANYONE who thinks that what comes out of his mouth is credible, is on the pipe.

He has almost no true business acumen (other than cheating or suing his partners and workers) and no diplomatic skills, and thinks like a testosterone-driven teenager. True, he is not a Washington "insider" -- if that has appeal -- but you do not operate successfully in our capitol (or any other around the world) without knowledge and skills he simply does not have. He will NOT build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, he will NOT stop the immigration of Muslims and he will NOT eliminate ISIS with this blunder and inflammable rhetoric.

I confess that at this point in the proceedings we have to choose the lesser of two evils.

But voting for The Donald  even just to make a point or send a signal to your other elected representatives — is a mistake that could have grave consequences for this nation. Everything about him is bullshit, from his claims that all things stamped with Trump are "first-class," to his business record, to his misogynistic and xenophobic temperament. Nearly everything he has touched has gone to hell. He lies, he exaggerates, and he can't even speak in complete sentences.

Go have some T-shirts made up that say "I Am So Mad, I Could Vote For Trump! (But I Won't)" to express your frustrations and fear. But please do not think of putting that moron in the White House.

Listened to the entire acceptance speech and was not surprised to find it full of rhetoric without one solid policy idea. It was simply frightening.
