Google Search Pushes Out Live Carousel Feature For Publishers

Google now allows publishers to push breaking news to search results in real-time.

The pilot accepts a variety of content and video, according to one report. The pilot allows for live sports, elections and breaking news as soon they are available on the publisher's site.

Richard Gingras, Google's head of news, announced the real-time indexing through an API at the company's developers' conference earlier this year.

Jennifer Slegg, founder of The SEM Post, explain in a blog that publishers must first implement Google's Accelerated Mobile Project (AMP) and must include structured data markup as well as an Atom XML feed to push the updates to Google.

Today, the pilot is targeted toward publishers generating a high volume of breaking and developing news coverage or live sports coverage, including but not limited to live blogs, breaking news updates, and live video, per Google.

"With the Search live coverage carousel, users can find content about live sports, elections, and breaking news as soon it’s available on your site," according to Google. "Breaking content can include live blogs, full length articles, videos and more."

Publishers that are interested in participating need to fill out a questioner to submit a request.
