Spammer Sentenced To Nine Years

  • April 11, 2005
A Virginia judge last week sentenced Jeremy Jaynes of Raleigh, N.C. to nine years in prison for sending spam, but stayed the sentence pending appeal. A jury convicted Jaynes last November of using false Internet addresses to send at least 10 million e-mail ads a day; Virginia state law criminalizes using fake Web addresses to send mass e-mails. For now, Jaynes remains free on $1 million bond.
