Google Local Goes Mobile

  • April 13, 2005
Google Tuesday announced the release of a mobile version of Google Local, which allows mobile device users to access local search, get directions, and look for a decent slice of pizza from whatever street corner they happen to be standing on. In addition to the mobile-ready Google Local site, the search giant also added SMS functionality, allowing users to get directions via short messages. Users can send a request for directions, such as for the best route to LaGuardia Airport in New York, to the number "46645"--"Googl" on a touchtone phone--and receive directions sent back to them, courtesy of Google Local.
