NBC Gains More Viewers With NFL, Golden Globes

NBC moved into an ever-better top ratings position among key viewers with an NFL playoff game and the “Golden Globes.”

Season-to-date numbers show NBC at a Nielsen 3.45 million among 18-49 viewers (2.7 rating/9 share) -- nearly 800,000 viewers more than the next best network, Fox. NBC is also at near parity with CBS for top honors among total viewers (9.87 million for CBS; 9.76 for NBC).

Viewing data comes from Nielsen's live program-plus-seven days of time-shifted data, except for the most recent two-week period, which is live plus same-day time-shifted viewing.

For the period ending January 8, a Detroit-Seattle NFL playoff game gave NBC 26.9 million viewers, while the Golden Globes pulled in 20.02 million. CBS' “Big Bang Theory” tallied 16.8 million.

Looking at the season so far, after NBC in the 18-49 category comes Fox at 2.59 million (2.0/7); CBS, 2.39 million (1.9/7); and ABC, 2.17 million (1.7/6). ABC is averaging 6.65 million total overall viewers; Fox is at 6.33 million.

The next best broadcast networks for the season so far include Univision -- 1.84 million total viewers; 830,000 18-49 viewers; CW, 1.8 million total viewers; 820,000 in 18-49; viewers; Telemundo, 1.68 million total viewers; 850,000 in 18-49 viewers; and ION, 1.24 million overall viewers; and 380,000 in 18-49 viewers.
