A Panda Birthday Party!

  • July 22, 2002
Fujifilm, in partnership with Friends of the National Zoo and Animal Planet, is throwing a birthday party on August 1st to mark the first anniversary of the arrival in this country of giant pandas, Tian Tian and Mei Xiang.

Fujifilm U.S.A.’s interactive agency, Sharpe Partners has built a promotion to let panda-lovers get in on the fun “virtually.” Sharpe Partners has built a new website where visitors can send a personal "Panda-Gram" to wish the panda pair well or visit the Panda Photo Gallery or send Panda Picture Postcards.

The site also offers "Fun Facts" about giant pandas, a chance to ask the zookeeper a question and allows visitors to "virtually" meet Tian Tian and Mei Xiang.

Sharpe has also developed a sweepstakes on the site offering visitors a chance to win a trip to Washington to meet the pandas, and will email a cleverly designed invitation to the site celebration to 15,000 people who have previously registered on the “old Fuji/panda site” (and other Fuji lists.)

This follows on an earlier assignment for Sharpe Partners to use the web to help Fujifilm U.S.A. to celebrate the 2001 arrival of the two giant pandas to the National Zoo. In its first year, the “old” Fujifilm/panda site attracted 100,000 visitors, 25% of whom registered and 10,000 “Panda-Grams” were sent.
