Travel Channel Reaches New Border: 80 Million Subs

  • April 26, 2005
More video vacationers can now journey to Discovery Network's Travel Channel, as A.C. Nielsen Media Research estimates that the cable net now reaches 80.1 million U.S. households. When Discovery acquired the Travel Channel in 1997, the network was distributed to just 18 million homes. The network gained 11.6 million and 12.3 million subscribers in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

Travel Channel recently added two new series, "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations," which focuses on the best-selling author/food celebrity's culinary globe-hopping, and "Stranded -- With Cash Peters," which drops its host in an unknown location, with no money, no place to stay, no food, relying on the generosity of the locals as he explores the places they call home. --David Kaplan
