MeeVee Launches Search Engine For TV Content

  • June 8, 2005
MeeVee, the company formerly known as MyDTV, which makes search engines for TV-related content, went live on the Web this week. Users of the free, add-supported service can search through program schedules via show titles, cast member names, and the like--or put MeeVee's recommendation tool to use.

While rivals in the increasingly congested video search space such as Yahoo! and Blinkx.tv build indexes of video clips, MeeVee's site concentrates on providing program information.

Having just signed a deal with NBC to show its program footage, however, MeeVee will include video clips from some providers. The deal with NBC allows it to buy clips of NBC shows for its Web site. The clips will be used on its program guide at its Web site, MeeVee said in a statement. The company said it has built up a stable of 300 media partners.

The company also said it will promote its new service via radio and outdoor ads, as well as banner and search advertising online.
