Cisco Takes New Route, Acquires Scientific-Atlanta

Cisco Systems, the leading provider of data routing systems on the Internet and home wireless networks, Friday announced plans to acquire Scientific-Atlanta, a leading developer of digital set-top systems for the cable and satellite TV industries. Cisco said it would pay $6.9 billion for S-A. The deal comes as TV and Internet distribution systems are converging. -- Joe Mandese
