Prince Charles has sued
The Mail on Sunday after it published an embarrassing excerpt from his private journals. The offending bit of prose, according to Britain's MediaGuardian Web site,
referred to Chinese leaders as "appalling old waxworks." (And this from the minimally animated Prince Charles!) "Like anybody else, the Prince of Wales is entitled to write a private journal without
extracts being published. This journal was copied and passed to
The Mail on Sunday without permission," said Sr. Michael Peat, the prince's private secretary. For its part,
The Mail
announced it was "surprised" by Prince Charles' decision to begin legal action, disputing that the journal was in fact a private document. "It was widely distributed and viewed... as a historic
document intended for eventual publication," the paper said in a statement.
