Napster and iTunes Still Top Music Brands

iTunes and Napster remain the top two brands among pay-download sites, according to a report released Thursday by research firm Ipsos Insight. The report concluded that U.S. downloaders, ages 12 and older, are highly likely to recognize of the two top sites--79 percent for Napster and 57 percent for iTunes, with competitors Yahoo! coming in at 49 percent, RealPlayer at 45 percent, and Rhapsody at 41 percent. The report--which was based on surveys of 1,088 downloaders ages 12 and up--found that respondents valued sound quality, ease of use, and music selection as the most important traits of a music download service. --Shankar Gupta
