Yahoo! Inc is once again going on a road trip, this time on three of the most popular commuter train routes in the U.S. The company, which has previously showed off the wireless web in taxis in New York City and commuter planes in Japan, is unveiling an alliance with Amtrak that will feature interactive cars equipped with iPAQ pocket PCs made by Compaq Computer Corp. The trains featuring the interactive cars are the Acela Regional, running between Washington, D.C., and Boston; the Capitols, which serves Sacramento, Oakland and San Jose, Calif., and the Hiawatha, which connects Chicago to downtown Milwaukee. The company said the service is designed to show off the convenience of the wireless web for people on the go.
