Arbitron's Portable People Meter, the new audience measurement system still under development in the U.S., is making its debut in Canada. Arbitron announced today that BBM Canada, which provides tv and radio audience measurement in Canada, will begin using PPM to measure television audiences next year. Early next year, BBM will deploy the PPM system to small consumer groups in Montreal and Quebec who will begin reporting their television ratings. BBM acquired the exclusive rights to PPM in Canada. The PPM "represents a significant step forward over current means of measuring television audiences," says Pierre Bouvand, president of BBM. It will measure French language stations in Quebec as well as English language stations in other parts of Canada.
