eMarketer: Consumers Concerned About Online Privacy

  • March 15, 2006
Nearly half of all consumers are "extremely" concerned about the privacy and the security of their personal information while shopping online, according to an eMarketer report released Tuesday. What's more, 29 percent of consumers surveyed reduced the number of items they bought online because of those privacy concerns last year. "The actual threat and the perceived threat of cyber crime are altering online shopping behavior," the study stated. "Web retailers who know how to build consumer confidence will gain a competitive advantage."
