Everybody Still Loves 'Raymond'

joe/shari,

You might be able to hear the sigh of relief from here. In an unusual Sunday news release, CBS announced that "Everybody Loves Raymond" will return for a ninth and final season next year. The show--which, now that "Friends" is off the air, apparently won't have a challenger for the top- rated comedy on television--averaged 17.4 million this season. It's also won eight Emmy Awards, including last year's Best Comedy. CBS had been negotiating with star Ray Romano and the producers for another season. But one of the questions was whether Romano wanted to continue the show. While observers suggested that it probably would return, it was also likely not to be a full-time commitment of 22 half-hour episodes. CBS said Sunday that "Everybody Loves Raymond" would return for 16 episodes in the fall.
