Pluck Signs New Publishers for BlogBurst

Pluck has signed several new publishers for its blog syndication service, BlogBurst, including the technophilic San Jose Mercury News, which will be syndicating content from tech blogs, the company announced Tuesday at the Syndicate Conference in New York City.

In addition to the Merc, Pluck has also signed Parade magazine's Web site, Parade.com, and Lee Enterprises, which publishes 58 daily newspapers in small markets.

According to Pluck CEO Dave Panos, Pluck's blogger network--now 1500 strong--aims to offer locally focused, topical content, even to small-market publications like those run by Lee. "How we serve the special needs of smaller markets represents well what bloggers can do for someone like that," he said. "For example, if you're the Santa Clara Times, you have the opportunity to get a range of content from experts and local voices."

Pluck, which launched its blog-syndication network out of beta earlier this month, has been recruiting bloggers in categories like technology, sports, fashion, and culture, and is currently searching for bloggers to cover the World Cup, Panos said. "On the blogger front, we started recruiting in late February, and we're now at 1500 bloggers in the network," he said. "Building a business like this, critical mass is required to be successful, and for us, it's about depth of content and breadth of choice that we can offer."
