Group M Flies With Star Alliance, Unveils Global Media Buying Cooperative

  • May 18, 2004
Star Alliance, a worldwide marketing network of leading airlines including United Airlines, Lufthansa and others, has named WPP's GroupM unit to handle a pooled media buying program. The network said the program is designed to "dramatically lower media procurement costs" and that participating airlines would benefit from a media "rewards" program that provides credits for additional services such as market research. "Budgets, pricing, programming, promotions, sponsorships and added value will remain confidential to the individual agency groups and clients," said GroupM CEO Irwin Gotlieb. GroupM is a media holding company unit that encompasses WPP's MindShare and Mediaedge:cia units.
