GolTV Extends Spanish League Soccer In U.S.

Hoping to score increased distribution from the recent popularity of the World Cup, cable network GolTV has extended its exclusive deal to carry Spanish League soccer games in the U.S. The multi-year deal gives the channel rights to a steady diet of games featuring the popular David Beckham, who plays for Real Madrid.

GolTV is also near a deal to carry games stateside for the German League, a source said. Known as the Bundesliga, it is among the world's most competitive leagues.

GolTV is in 10 million homes in the U.S. on DBS services DirecTV and Dish Network, along with some MSOs. It offers feeds in both English and Spanish, and is looking to leverage Spanish and German league rights deals to garner increased distribution.

The independent network competes with Univision, Fox Soccer Channel, and ESPN for American consumers of international soccer.
