Verizon Wireless Adds Programming Options

Verizon Wireless, a leading wireless provider, is expanding the content on its Get It Now and V CAST mobile entertainment platforms to include Fantasy Football and new mobile gaming titles.

Get it Now is a pay-as-you-go service, while V CAST is Verizon's $15-per-month subscription music and video offering. The content additions announced Thursday are necessary to remain competitive, says spokesperson Brenda Raney.

Rival Sprint Nextel just launched the industry's first original mobile programming network, offering free sports and entertainment content to its data-package customers. Called Power View, it also focuses heavily on football content, the byproduct of Sprint's five-year content deal with the NFL.

Fantasy Football is an add-on to CBS SportsLine's Web-based Fantasy Football league. For $4.99 per month, Verizon customers will be able to manage their teams from their mobile phones and receive news alerts about key players. Verizon Wireless also will expand its slate of mobile games, offered in conjunction with Vivendi Games Mobile.
