Omnicom Shops Sign Diversity Pact With NYC

Omnicom units BBDO, DDB, Merkley and PHD announced an agreement with the New York City Commission on Human Rights to increase the number of minorities working for their companies. The quartet of Omnicom firms were among 16 subpoenaed by the commission to testify at hearings about the dearth of non-white professionals--most specifically, African-Americans--in the industry, to be held during Advertising Week next week. The other 12 shops made similar agreements with the commission earlier this month. The agreements, which set up hiring goals and better advancement for minorities, also include an annual progress report, so the subpoenaed agencies no longer have to testify.
