Now that the Internet has given your neighbor and her video camera enough broadcasting power to rival a major television network, Web video technology company Veoh wants to make it just as enjoyable to watch.
The San Diego-based company offers both the technology and a network, allowing professionals and amateursalike to post and share feature-length, DVD-quality videos, said Dmitry Shapiro, founder and CEO.
"Veoh is a virtual cable operator that has infinite capacity for traditional and non-traditional broadcasters," he says.
Users can download Veoh's software to Mac or PC to watch the full-quality versions of posted videos. Veoh hosts, catalogues, and recommends content, à la Netflix. The site also includes long-form content, from cult flicks like "Reefer Madness" and "Night of the Living Dead" to obscure user-generated content.
Veoh will begin selling ads later this year, relying on its in-house ad sales staff and third-party ad networks. Content creators share in the ad and subscription revenue.
