Brightcove Unveils Video Syndication Platform
With the new service, all professional video creators will be able to use Brightcove's platform to sell and/or monetize their videos with ads. Brightcove, publishing sites and content owners will all share revenue from sales of ads and video. A handful of companies, including Reuters, MTV Networks and Dow Jones & Co. reportedly have already used a test version of the network.
The company has forged deals with several large media companies, including The New York Times, Warner Music and Sony BMG. Additionally, Brightcove is working with AOL to sell paid video downloads.
The company, which also works with NBC Universal network Bravo TV, also recently received $5 million in financing from GE Commercial Finance.
Brightcove also intends to launch a site for consumers at Brightcove.com; that site will host a good portion of the video clips Brightcove plans to distribute to other Web sites.
The company, based in Cambridge, Mass., counts Hearst Corp., IAC/InterActiveCorp and Time Warner among its backers. The company was founded by Internet pioneer Jeremy Allaire in 2004.
