Pontiac Launches Musical Talent Search

  • November 21, 2006
Pontiac has launched what it is calling its largest-ever music promotion, a nationwide musical talent search and contest called "Countdown to 1." The campaign offers unsigned bands a shot at an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a gig in New York's Times Square at the Pontiac Garage, during the annual New Year's Eve celebration.

Pontiac, which launched the Pontiac Garage events with Jimmy Kimmel Live last year, has iterations of the Garage in Los Angeles, Detroit, and Chicago, as well as New York. Interested bands must upload an MP3 and submit an essay on why they should be picked, at www.countdownto1.com.

Through Dec. 15, Pontiac is dangling an all-expenses-paid trip for two to New York and VIP invites to Jimmy Kimmel Live and the New Year's Eve celebration. Mark-Hans Richer, director of marketing for the GM division, has said music lifestyle efforts have lowered the median age of the brand's buyer by 13 years, and that a Pontiac Garage concert in Times Square last year brought an audience of 55,000.
