iVillage Live Takes Homemade Videos To TV

As part of its experiment fusing television and the Web, "iVillage Live," the daytime talk show premiering today, will give viewers the chance to see their homemade videos on TV.

The videos will be selected from among the most popular submitted to the show's companion iVillageLive.com site.

The show, airing at noon EST on NBCU's 10 owned-and-operated stations, the Bravo cable network and the Web site, is an attempt to combine the Internet's interactive elements with a traditional TV format. It will focus on topics such as parenting, health and beauty and lifestyle--all of which dovetail with the popular iVillage women's' site.

Videos submitted to iVillageLive.com are expected to focus on similar topics. The video-sharing software supplied by One True Media will let users edit and upload their videos without having to download any applications. Videos will be screened only for profane or illicit material before being posted to the site. The most popular videos as ranked by site visitors will be eligible for airing on the show.

The number and frequency of user-generated videos that appear on the show has not yet been determined, according to One True CEO Mark Moore.

Besides featuring user-generated video, iVillageLive.com will host a live chat during the broadcast stream on its site. Some of the content will be shown on-screen, via a scroll at the bottom. Viewers will also be able to direct the content of the TV show through daily polls and online commentary.

iVillage Live sponsors include Bally Total Fitness, Estee Lauder, Healthy Choice and Unilever. Advertisers' products will be integrated into the show, and will be simultaneously available for purchase at iVillageLive.com.
