Best Buy Opens Store In China

  • December 27, 2006
Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy opened its first outlet in China, teaming with a local partner to tackle the hyper-competitive market for gadgets and appliances. The new store, in Shanghai's Xujiahui shopping district, was opened in conjunction with Jiangsui Five Star Appliance Co., China's 14th biggest appliance retailer.

Best Buy plans to win over customers with clean, pleasant outlets and helpful, dependable service. The new 80,000-square-foot outlet is Best Buy's biggest store anywhere, and its first outside North America.

Despite intense local competition in the lower segments of the market, foreign brands dominate in malls and shopping centers aimed at China's rapidly growing middle class, who are willing and able to pay a bit more for better service and quality.
