DIY Network Breaks Ground On First 'Blog Cabin'
The network has begun filming a new 13-part TV series, documenting the construction of a log cabin in the foothills of Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains. Set to air Aug. 18, the cabin will feature a floor plan, windows, and other designs chosen by www.diynetwork.com's Blog Cabin community.
The interactive initiative began in February, with DIY host and home building expert Amy Devers inviting visitors to vote for their favorite design elements on a microsite. In two months there were more than 2,800 user comments, gaining home improvement advertisers like Lumber Liquidators and True Value an estimated 1.7 million page views.
From mid-April to mid-summer, Devers and crew will construct the retreat from the ground up--including the winning online design elements chosen by a reported 4.7 million votes. With specific episodes dedicated to the aspects like "The Fireplace," and "The Countertops," the show represents an opportunity for product advertisers to sponsor relevant episodes.
The DIY Network remains committed to supporting the Blog Cabin community on the Internet, however, encouraging users to share their own cabin-building experiences and offering photos and video of the construction process via the Web site. The entire project will culminate with a sweepstakes to award the completed cabin to one winner in the fall.
