  • July 26, 2007
comScore released the first report on Web usage in Latin America (including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico), revealing that more than 53 million unique users ages 15 or older logged on in June.

Microsoft trumped both Google and Yahoo in terms of visits and penetration--garnering more than 47 million unique visitors, for a reach of 88%. But Google sites followed closely with over 46 million uniques and a reach of 87%, while Yahoo took third with over 35 million uniques (65% reach).

Brazil had the largest online population with 15.8 million users--or 11% of the country's total population. On average, Brazilians viewed 40% more pages in June than other Latin Americans.

The report also revealed that the average Latin American Internet user spent 29 hours online during the month--more than the global average of 25 hours. comScore also found that Argentineans were the most active of all Web browsers in the region, accessing the Internet an average of 18 days in the month.

"Because of its size and rapid development, the Internet industry in Latin America is an exciting region to track and analyze," said Bob Ivins, executive vice president of comScore International Markets. "We have been reporting country-specific browsing data from the comScore panel for a number of years, but this is the first time we have compared metrics across the region."
