WGA: Broadcast News Standards Dropping

Per a white paper released by the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE), the quality of broadcast news is suspect. Titled "Broadcast Newswriters Speak About News Quality," the paper blames the reduction in newsrooms and a stressed staff for a lack of fact-checking and research. A shift away from news to lifestyle/entertainment is also charged. "The declining quality of news is staggering and disturbing," said Chris Albers, president of the Writers Guild of America, East. "Corporate pressures to cut costs are negatively impacting [our members'] ability to bring the public objective, high-quality news."
