Oprah, Other Talkers Ascend, News Personalities Descend In '03

  • December 29, 2003
For the second consecutive year, Oprah Winfrey ranked as America's "Favorite TV Personality," according to the year-end 2003 edition of an annual poll conducted by Harris Interactive. In the 11 years Harris has conducted the survey, Winfrey has ranked in the top three American TV favorites. David Letterman ranked second in 2003, up from third place in 2002 and fourth place in 2001. Fox's Bill O'Reilly ranked third, up from fifth in 2002 and seventh in 2001. And in a potentially troubling development for network news divisions, top news personalities NBC's Katie Couric (No. 4 in 2002), NBC's Tom Brokaw (No. 8 in 2002) and CBS' Dan Rather (No. 10 in 2002) all dropped out of the top ten in 2003.
