DeCourcy Returns To Omnicom With TBWA

Returning to her Omnicom roots, Colleen DeCourcy has resigned as chief experience officer at WPP Group's JWT to assume the new global position of chief digital officer at Omnicom's TBWA.

In several weeks, DeCourcy--who spent about a year at JWT--will join the New York office of TBWA, where she will report to worldwide president Tom Carroll.

Apparently, nothing would have kept the highly respected DeCourcy at JWT. "I grew up inside of Omnicom, so it wasn't even a matter of weighing the two options when this opportunity came along," she explained.

Sweetening the deal, along with free rein to work across TBWA's various units, DeCourcy is also getting a seat on the agency's board.

"That will give me a real opportunity to move the entire company forward in a digital direction," DeCourcy said.

DeCourcy, who will initially focus most of her energies on New York, stressed the importance of strengthening alliances between Tequila, Agency.com, and other Omnicom units.

On the matter of steering such a large ship through precarious digital waters, DeCourcy said: "When you want to get something done, it's great to know you've got an army."

Before JWT, DeCourcy served as Organic's chief creative officer since late 2005. She had been at the Omnicom Group unit since 2000. Before Organic, DeCourcy was director of creative strategy at ICE Integrated Communications & Entertainment in Toronto. She also has worked at Spafax in London, where she was chief creative officer.

TBWA--arguably best known for creating the iconic silhouette ads for the Apple iPod--has been on something of a tear lately. In May, Japanese electronics maker Pioneer hired the agency to help its television sets stand out. Pioneer's $50 million global creative and media account had previously been under the purview of RPA.

Earlier this summer, TBWAChiatDay appointed Corey Mitchell president of its New York offices. Mitchell--who has responsibility for both the TBWAChiatDay and Tequila offices in New York--was previously worldwide managing director for TBWA's global Mars account.
