Sirius has reached an agreement with the National Basketball Association to air NBA games, including playoffs and NBA Finals, on its nationally distributed satellite radio system. Starting in
February, Sirius will air as many as 40 NBA games each week as part of its standard programming package. Sirius’ play-by-play coverage will be ad supported, and the NBA, which will supply the audio
feeds to Sirius, will handle sales. The games will air on existing channels, although Sirius VP of programming acquisitions Susan Weinstein says they have the ability to create additional bandwidth to
air more games on nights when the NBA’s calendar is especially heavy.
