Living Room Lights Still On

Meredith’s domestic offering Living Room is still alive, according to company representatives, following a newspaper report in the New York Post. Meredith says they are still analyzing the results of Living Room’s debut test issue, which was released last fall. “No formal decisions have been make,” said a company spokesman. Meredith is targeting younger readers with Living Room, which presently has no permanent editorial or sales staff. “For it to be viable, it’s critical for circulation dynamics to be strong,” said Meredith Publishing Group President Steve Lacy at last month’s Credit Suisse First Boston media conference. Meredith is aiming for circulation of 750,000-plus, and in contrast with most shelter magazines, the belief and hope is that Living Room will have a higher concentration of newsstand sales than traditional shelter magazines, which tend to be more subscription-based than most consumer magazines.
