Verizon Wireless has agreed to pay customers $1 million for wrongful account termination and to halt deceptive marketing of its Internet use plan.

The settlement ends a nine-month investigation by the New York State Attorney General's office into Verizon Wireless's marketing rhetoric that touts unlimited laptop broadband access. The inquiry revealed that the company did not disclose to subscribers that video download and playing online games weren't part of the plan. The $59.99 broadband service plan covered only Web browsing, e-mail and Internet access.

From 2004 through April 2007, more than 13,000 subscribers were terminated for excessive use of its unlimited Internet plan.
